The Town was Usual Enough model...
The Multicultural Festival was usual enough,
It had a fun fishing hole, a bike station, Mr Cole’s corn hole
and a zombie shoot out.
It even had a bouncy castle.
My friends and I did what kids do -
Spent all their money on food, games and junk,
Jumped up and down on the bouncy castle,
Waited hours for sugar donuts,
Ate a pottle of hot chips,
Biked, raced with each other
And performed on stage.
By Room 14
I learnt how to use James K Baxter's model of The Town was Usual Enough
for the Multicultural Festival. I found it challenging to come up with the phrases or words that sounded right. Did you play Mr Cole's corn hole game and dunk the principal?

Multicultural Festival 2019
A big shout out to those students that helped Mrs Campbell on the bike track - Rajbir (senior), Emily (former student), Peyton, Ekamjot, Max, Leslie, Ivy, Izzy and Gurjot (Room 14 students).
I am so proud of the students that performed, initially nervous but did great! The Pasifika group looked amazing. Thank you Mrs Wallbank!
If you took some photos of the night would you be willing to share them with us so that we can add them?
Travelwise Celebration
I really enjoy being the Travelwise Leader at Papakura Central School. The Travelwise Team is composed of 23 students. The students have worked really hard this year. We were celebrating the year and learning how we can earn Gold for 2020. We are ready for the challenge!

Motat was usual enough
Motat trip
Motat was usual enough;
It had a tram, olden days school, machines, gift shop
and a trampoline I never been on.
and a trampoline I never been on.
My friends, my parent helper and I did what kids do
- ate morning tea, looked at machines, walked in
an olden day house, posed behind the
colourful Motat sign, and sat in the tram.

Ekamjot's writing was inspired James K Baxter in his
model of The town was usual enough... We had fun using
his model to create our own Motat poem.

Why Blog?
Why do our students blog? Here are some reasons why our students blog:
- It is FUN! Fun!….. it is wonderful when students think they are having so much fun, they forget that they are actually learning.
- Authentic audience – no longer working for a teacher who checks and evaluates work but a potential global audience.
- Suits all learning styles.
- Increased motivation for writing – all students are happy to write.
- Increased motivation for reading – students will happily spend a lot of time browsing through fellow student posts.
- Improved confidence levels –when students receive feedback from family and friends this is increases their confidence to write more.
- Pride in their work and increased proofreading and validation skills
- Parents with internet access can view their child’s work and writings – an important element in the parent partnership with the classroom. Whanau from overseas have made comments on student posts.
Please leave a comment about what you enjoy about blogging.

Home Learning this week (Week 7)
Today (Wednesday 20/3) the students have glued a home learning sheet in their book headed up My Name. Please have them complete this by Monday Week 8. If students are unsure of their river or mountain please leave it blank as we will be discussing this over the next few weeks and discovering these.
There are also a couple of sheets for parents/caregivers to fill in. This is confidential. Please complete and return to me at your convenience (although it would be great to receive it by the end of the term please). Thank you for your support in this.
Please send me an email if you have any questions regarding these home learning sheets.
Thanks Mrs Campbell

Peyton wrote about The Best Part of Me - Hands
My Hands
I like my hands because I can touch stuff like my chromebooks
and my books.
and my books.
I can also eat with my hands.
Sometimes at home I like to fiddle with stuff.
I can also choose stuff with my fingers.
I can paint my nails and design my nails with my hands.
Sometimes people like Cardi B go to the salon and get really
long nails, then get jewels and nail polish to put on their nails.

We all have hands. Without hands we wouldn’t able to do lots
of things.

My Mouth
My mouth helps me to eat my delicious food
and drink my water. My mouth can even help
me to taste the food I eat like chicken. It can
even help us to breathe in the fresh air and
oxygen. It is one of the parts that can help
me talk and be a chatterbox. My mouth is the
best part of me.

School Holidays
Hi everyone,
The holidays are going by very quickly. I hope you are all having wonderful holidays. I would love you to share some of your holidays on your blog with me or by email. I have had emails from Jordan regarding The Summer Learning Journey and have been getting emails about Taya's, Koshik's and Alex I's posts. Congratulations - I hope you three learn a lot along the way and who knows you might be lucky to get some prizes along the way or even be the one winner at the end. I have watched a couple movies - I went with my husband to see A Star is Born and have been with Michael and Nadia to see Spiderman, Bumblebee, Ralph Wrecks The Internet and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Look forward to an email or a blog post from you!
